ROLAND SEJKO

Roland Sejko (1968, Albania) graduated the Faculty of History and Philogy at the Tirana University before settling to Italy in 1991 where he has been working in the film business for Istituto Luce. A journalist and cultural reporter as well, Sejko founded and directs since 1999 the Albanian-language fortnightly “Bota shqiptare” (The Albanian world) addressed to the Albanian community in Italy. In 2008 Sejko made his debut as a director writing and co-directing the documentary “Albania, il paese di fronte”, based solely on propaganda archive material from Istituto Luce and the Albanian Film Archive. In 2012 he wrote and directed ANIJA – The ship, a documentary on the mass exodus of Albanians to Italy in the nineties. Presented at Turin’s International Film Festival, the film won a nomination at Nastro d’Argento film awards. In June 2013 the film was awarded the David di Donatello, the most prestigious Italian Film Award, as the best long-feature documentary of the year. In 2015, he directed the documentary Pritja (The Awaiting) related to the visit of Pope Francis in Albania in 2014.
